Doris Brendel — THE LAST ADVENTURE

Using some of the musicians Doris has been working with extensively over the last few years, along with Dave Beeson, who also produced her last album DB Driving, The Last Adventure was recorded in the old-fashioned way — no sequencers or click tracks — giving the album a retro feel in today's digital age. Nevertheless, there are hints of more modern influences too and there are varied touches of the Beatles, Cranberries, and Muse to name but a few comparisons made so far

Though keeping within a rock framework, the genres are varied as well, which has become one of Doris Brendel's trademarks. Once again some tracks feature the flageolet, so prominent in The Violet Hour and If, lending a Celtic slant to the music, though by no means dominating it. A few songs, notably 'Get A Life' and 'I'm Not Old I'm Experienced' are fairly traditional rock; 'What Are you Saying' has been likened to The Cranberries; 'What Have I Done' a Beatle-esque pop song; 'Latest Fantasy' ambient Celtic nu-rock; 'Why are You Still Here' out and out progressive rock; 'The Last Adventure', 'Work In Progress' and 'Almost Perfect' are harder to categorise and don't follow standard song structures

The lyrics of The Last Adventure are varied too, ranging from the tongue-in-cheek to serious and contentious subjects. Following the success of 'Sorry' and 'Tamed', Doris Brendel has become a highly regarded lyricist, and the new songs are no exception
