''Quirky esoteric singer-songwriter with a bluesy twist''  ''Highly Entertaining''

You may do a double-take if you see Doris Brendel and her producer and guitarist Lee Dunham in a folk club with a couple of acoustic guitars. The pair have been gracing O2 venues across the country with their full electric band and have embarked on several European tours with both Wishbone Ash and former Marillion frontman Fish over the last few years...

Unwilling to go quietly when COVID stamped a huge boot on their tour plans, Doris and Lee have decided that some ‘unplugged’ shows will be their chosen direction of travel until the next big tour in 2024. It may not be the theatrical pomp and melodic prog rock of the full band shows, but their acoustic set has been described as “esoteric singer-songwriter with bluesy twist meets charismatic chat and humour” - indeed some of the songs like ‘Today I Sold Myself on Ebay’ and ‘Blue Egg from Another Planet’ have an ear-worm quality that makes them very hard to forget.

Doris and Lee have just released their 5th studio album 'Pigs Might Fly' together, but the singer has an incredible 19 albums to her name, not to mention a vast catalogue of session work. The daughter of famed classical pianist Alfred Brendel, her distinctive vocals were the driving force behind 1990s alt-rockers The Violet Hour, who were signed to Sony when they released their now revered, classic album ‘The Fire Sermon’ in 1991.

Doris has worked with some notable artists over the years, including Alvin Lee, Gary Moore, Sam Brown, Joe Brown and Herbie Flowers, and has toured extensively with Marillion as well as Nils Lofgren, John Farnham and Steve Marriott. She was also invited to sing with Pink Floyd on the Great Gig in the Sky tour, but had to decline due to already-contracted tour commitments. She recently sang backing vocals on Fish’s acclaimed album ‘Weltschmerz’.

JONES & SON

JONES & Son is a collaboration between John Dexter Jones, veteran frontman of cult British rock band, JUMP, and his youngest son, breakthrough singer-songwriter and guitarist, Tal Jones. A set that features acoustic versions of works by both artists, blends skill, experience, different perspectives, voices, and just the necessary amount of irreverence. The deconstruction of John’s work with JUMP is complemented by similarly stripped-down versions of Tal’s arresting and engaging catalogue. What might be considered a broad world view is shared with passion, humour, harmony and total commitment to the audience.

The few feet that separate the two on stage bridges a gap of almost forty years between their respective professional debuts, although their easy, relaxed delivery says everything about the power of music to break down barriers of age, style, and genre.

A career that has yielded fourteen studio albums since JUMP’s formation in 1990, John Jones has recently concentrated on acoustic shows and has supported some of Prog's heavyweights including Lazuli and Lifesigns.

This show at High Wycombe’s fabulous Magnolia Park venue on Thursday 14th March marks John Jones' second collaboration with the Brendel/ Dunham duo and promises to be a night to remember!

As before admission is on a pay-what-you-can basis for pre-booked tickets from this website only.
